I have several questions about the Axis screen house. 1. I have concerns about fiberglass poles. Can you please tell me more about your fiberglass poles? Have there been any issues with them with other customers? |
No issues with the fiber glass poles from other customers - so far, people who purchased the tent, love it
| On exactly what support part of the tent are they located? |
The fiber glass poles support the upper roof area of the tent
2. The height of the tent is 9ft. Have you had any reports from other customers about wind related issues with a tent of this height? |
None at all, if you follow the assembly instructions and use all the guy ropes and tent stakes to set up the tent, you shouldn't have any issues with the wind
That said, CEC tents are intended for 3 season family camping use and not for extreme weather conditions

3. Is the zippered screen/flap all one unit? |
Yes it is, there is a built in mesh vent for air circulation and full fabric zippered doors to keep out the sun and rain
4. Is the velcro removable floor fully velcroed on all sides, and lengths of the floor? |
Yes the Velcro fasteners attach all sides of the floor to the tent and run on all points
That should do it for now. Thanks you, Brandy Persson |

Modular tents: Removable floor better?Hi Danielle, thanks for your email
The floor of that Atlas is connected to the rest of the tent - it's a fully sewn in floor that prevents weather and bugs from getting in (assuming you zip the door closed!)
Some people just prefer to have an attached floor versus one that's removable but they both present useful options: a removable floor means you can clean the tent easier and reduce the weight if you just want a light weight shelter
If you have further questions, please let us know!
Modular tents - what kind of connection?Hi John, thanks for your email
The sleeping pods for the both models in our
Modular Tent range eg the Axis and Zulu physically attach to the central tent (Axis) via zippers with a rain flap to cover that connection to help reduce water ingress
If you have further questions, please let us know!

Canvas vs Synthetic fabric tentsHi David, thanks for your email
Honestly, the days of the traditional canvas tent are pretty much over
Really military style cotton canvas is significantly heavier and water-retentive than synthetic fabric (the Gobi tent is made of polyester)
While canvas may last longer (with appropriate care) than synthetic fabric, polyester is much lighter in weight - which you will come to appreciate with CEC tents as we only supply LARGE family camping tents
However with appropriate care, synthetic fabric can last for years and provide you with a lot of quality use
Synthetic fabric is naturally water repellent and CEC rain fly's (the outer most layer of our tents) also include a polyurethane coating (PU) in addition to PU seam taping for added water proofness
If you have other questions about canvas versus synthetic fabric tents, please let me know
Best Regards,
Andrew

To Whom It Concerns: My wife and I are looking into a new tent, and I'm leaning towards this Gobi 6 man tent I see on your site. I'm a bit of a tent snob and I only want a canvas tent because I've always had MUCH better luck in bad weather with canvas. However, I'm not sure the Gobi tent I'm looking at is canvas. Is it? If not, whats the material? I REALLY want canvas, but I also love the deisgn of that Gobi tent, so I guess what I'm saying is that if you can lower my own snobbery level and convince me that the material will work just as well as canvas, I'll still get it. thanks! Let me know! |
Overseas ShippingHi Rein, thanks for your email
We can ship anywhere from the USA but please note that shipping is likely to be quite expensive - probably more than the cost of the tent itself!
However, if you are still interested, then please forward your email address and I'll try to get the most economical shipping quote for you

Andrew

Why have a removable floor in your tent? |
| 10% off code = "loyalty" |
Hi Hayley, the central ground sheet in the Como tent is a tub style which means the edges are curved upwards
To prevent water ingress, ensure that the floor is properly staked down, fitted to the floor area and snug against the rain fly
If this is of concern, there are other models such as the
Gobi,
Icarus or
Mars that have a fully sewn in tub style floor that resolves this issue
The reason people choose
the Como style
(BIG Family Tents) is because they can easily disassemble the tent and clean it - below is a customer review taken from our site:
Equinox 8 Man Family Camping Tent
I just received your Equinox tent via UPS yesterday...and I have a COMPLAINT! Why don't you folks have a customer review section on your website?! Hell, I would've bought this tent months ago if I had any idea that these are such great tents.
I set up the tent as soon as it showed up, by myself. I was amazed at how easy it was to put up. As I was doing this, I was checking the stitching and the seam taping; top notch. The layout of the tent has to be one of the best on the market. Bathtub floor on the sleeping rooms. Main tent "floorless", which allows me to stake down a tarp for a floor which makes getting the dirt out a heck of a lot easier than a "floored" tent.
Guys, get a "review" section going and you will sell a lo! t more tents... I work in a sporting goods store and sell Columbia, Coleman, Eureka!, Mountain Hardware, North Face, and Wenzel tents. You guys aren't up to Mountain Hardware standards (thank God, the price would be a KILLER), but my Equinox looks like it is made much better than a Columbia tent.
Best Regards,
Andrew

Axis 4 person screen tent shelter: Product Reviews
LOVED IT
Posted by Karen on 2nd Aug 2012
I recently had a baby and wanted to go camping with my family but was worried about the bugs and the sun. I came across this and loved it because it had the removable floor. I put two fans in and was cool all day long. during rain it never got wet. I loved this so much we plan on getting another and getting the parts for a tent. We usually kept two side open for airflow the other two blocked the sun.
Mars tent assembly - when do I stake down the tent?Hi Mark, yes it's recommended you assemble the tent with the poles before staking it down as you may have to adjust the tent before stacking down the corners and the guy ropes
If you have more questions, please let me know

Andrew

| I just purchased a "Mars" tent and am awaiting shipment. In your instructions it appears that I am to assembly all poles and erect the tent BEFORE I stake it down? Is this the correct sequence? |

Customer Review: Ajax 12 person family camping dome tentAwesome tent and Amazingly large
Posted by Alex L. on 14th Mar 2012
A perfect tent for the car-camping family that does not want to feel cramped. Just completed a week long trip with high hinds and heavy rains. Tent was DRY at held up amazingly well. After initial set-up was able to set-up tent by myself in about 25 minutes and fully stake it down in that time. Website does not give this tent enough details about this amazing tent. Wish I bought it sooner!
Customer Review: Capricorn 8 person family camping dome tentalways the nicest tent in campground
Posted by 1 happy camper on 20th Jul 2012
I've bought this tent 3 years ago I don't know why I haven't wrote a review yet but now I've used it plenty and can give a proper review.Individual berths give you privacy. My favorite thing about this tent is the open room in the center. easily fits all your camping gear table chairs. it is basically like having a nice screen room with 2 tens attached to each side. last time we went camping it rained 2 solid days. never felt a drop of water we had plenty of room to play cards and games while waiting for the rain to pass and with a built in windows you can still see outside. I actually like having the tub tarp in the center because it makes it much easier to clean. We always get good comments on our tent And when I drive around the campground I can't help but look and ours is always the nicest. and with 2 people it is 1 of the easiest I have ever set up. and by the way they give you 3 times the guy lines and steaks that you need. and after 3 years of use still going strong and not a leak.
Modular tents: Standalone sleeping pods and multi room tents!Hi Dave, thanks for your email
Yes you can connect up to 4 Zulu sleeping pods to the main Axis hub but the set comes with 2
You always have the option of purchasing more Zulu pods which you can also use separately as a stand alone tent depending on what kind of trip you're taking and how much you can pack...
Check out the rest of the Modular tent details hereBest Regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for getting back to me. This page talks about being able to join up to 4 Zulu Sleeping pods to the main tent:
“BUT for those times when you want the option of a storage or eating area, just connect the Zulu to the Axis and away you go - if you want to invite some friends to join you or want to give the kids their own sleeping area, just add on another Zulu sleeping pod - connect up to 4 in total for a HUGE multi room tent!”
But of course, now I can’t find the original link that I thought said that there was a limit of 3 zulu pods. So officially what is the supported number of zulu sleeping pods for the Axis screen room / main tent? Is it 4?
Thanks,
Dave.

We have used this tent for several years in a row now. We put the kids in each pod with their own full-sized mattresses in two of the pods, and use the third for all of our gear. My husband and I put our queen-sized mattress and frame in the center part of the tent. We eliminated the bug problem by using a roll of thick plastic and making our own footprint for the tent. All in all, this has been the best tent we have ever owned, and a lot of people have come to our site just to look inside it.

Customer Review: Gobi 6 Person Family camping tunnel tentGreat Tent Tons of Space
Posted by Chris on 11th Aug 2012
My family just gave this tent a test drive for 5 days in Rhode Island and we love it! It has sooo much space. The sleeping area can easily hold our 2 Coleman 4-1 blow up mattresses! Kids on one side parents on the other. The "sleeping tent" attaches inside the big tent. So, it is a tent within another tent. This helps with dirt and bugs not getting into your sleeping area. The sleeping area could easliy hold 6 adults and the living area could hold at least another 6 adults.
The "living area" is a great concept. Most people go out and buy two tents, one for sleeping and one for eating this is no longer necessary. We used it to store our gear, toys included, change, you name it. No more moving around the mattresses. The air circulation is great.I will bring a small card table for inside next time.
The front porch is a great addition. It's nice to keep the rain out of the tent when you are trying to go in and out during a storm.
The floor construction is like an extremely strong, rip-stop, tarp material. It comes up a good 6" all around the inner sleeping tent and outer "Fly" or living area. If you do setup and a flash flood comes your way, this thing will protect you.
We did experience a pretty good rain one night. I was concerned about the top vents and water entering.(Image 10 above) But in the morning, there was no water at all. The "cover" over each vent seemed to collect some water and help seal the vents from rain. In the morning, we just pushed them up and got the water off the top of the vent cover.
This tent turns heads! We had people stopping by and asking questions, even taking pictures! This is not your typical tent in the United States. It is big approx 13'x20" so make sure your camp site can handle a tent of this size. The reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5 is because there were a few sewing errors, nothing that I couldn't live with and nothing that would effect the integrity of the actual tent. Also, I have not giving it an "extreme weather test" yet. You know the type where your tent is the only one standing after a big storm and everyone else is sleeping in their cars. I will keep you posted. I have one more big trip coming up. Thank you CEC! I am extremely pleased in your product.

Hi Chip,
Thanks for your email
We get these questions a lot about treating the rain fly on any brand of tent and there is the deal with CEC:
1. fabric: the fabric we use for our rain fly (outer most portion of your tent that is exposed to the rain) is already treated with polyurethane (PU) to prevent water penetrating the fabric
2. seams: in addition, we heat tape all of the inside seams on the rain fly with a PU tape to further prevent water ingress via the seams
3. floor: we use a polyethylene fabric for the floors which is much more water resistant than nylon or polyester
4. design: we've engineered our tents in such a way that when assembled properly (
following the instructions you can download online), the natural pitch of the roof will help reduce any moisture build up on the outside of the tent so that water just rolls off
This feature, combined with the fabric and seam taping, negates the need for you to apply any additional treatment to the tent

We just purchased a Mars tent and the family is getting excited about getting out and camping in this monster. But before that, on every forum or blog I read, most recommend using a seam sealer, even on new tents. So, what is CEC's view? Should I seal the seams on the outer tent before the first use? And, when the time does come that the tent needs to be retreated, what type of product do you recommend? PTFE gets a lot of positive reviews. Is this the best type of treatment for your tent material? Thanks. |
Premium tents: Floor attached or not?Hi Tim,
1. There is a ground sheet sewn into the rain fly and then
2. there are separate sleeping pods that also have their own floor sewn into them that you then
3. attach inside the rainfly giving you 2 separate layers of water proof flooring in each sleeping area
Hope that helps!

| I am trying to decide between the Icarus Utah and Oberon tents. The description of the Icarus says the the floor of the rain fly is removable, but the blog states that, for premium tents, the rain fly and ground sheet are sewn together. Can you clarify? |

Axis and Zulu Modular Tent System (MTS)As part of our commitment to innovative design, the CEC would like to introduce the latest tent to our ever expanding catalog
The issue: it's become evident from the positive feedback we receive that many people like and even prefer our large family camping tents - just as we love to design and improve upon them each season
However, large family camping tents present certain challenges on every level:
1. Our engineers find it logistically difficult to make due to the sheer size and weight of the materials that go into making each tent
2. Size and weight issues also come into play in the pack size: some of the tents are so HUGE that we have to pack the tent into 1 box and the poles into another because you'd have to be the Governator just to load the warehouse - this means we have to pay the courier more just to ship them
3. Assembly: Let's face it, Granny isn't getting any younger so let's give the old girl some help! We've added lots of nice pics to our instructions to make them clearer and easier to read but we're still dealing with the logistics of a HUGE tent
4. Flexibility: big, multi room tents are good when you take your spouse, kids, friends, dog and plenty of equipment, but what if it's just the two of you that want to get away? Go out and buy yet anoter tent?
Well, HUGE tents are what people want but what can we do to make it even easier?

Inspiration can come from the strangest of places and it was while watching re-runs of our favorite cartoons that it hit us: Most of our tents have a living area and multiple sleeping pods so why not section them off and make it modular?
Enter the Axis and the Zulu Modular Tent System (MTS): The Axis is a free standing Screen House with a removable floor, screen walls, stakes and guy ropes - use it as a sun shelter and bug free dining area by day and by night when you're ready for bed, using the Velcro tabs, install the waterproof tub style removable ground sheet and then connect to...
The Zulu: a free standing, 3 person fully water proof tent - perfect for those weekend trips when all you want is room for yourself, your partner and some sleeping gear - a great, general purpose tent
BUT for those times when you want the option of a storage or eating area, just connect the Zulu to the Axis and away you go - if you want to invite some friends to join you or want to give the kids their own sleeping area, just add on another Zulu sleeping pod - connect up to 4 in total for a HUGE multi room tent!
